// FEELING OLD //

HI EVERYONE,

Here's a photo of young Robert Downey Jr and Sarah Jessica Parker back in 1983. THEY WERE LITERALLY SO CUTE TOGETHER.

Black & white photographs are just so beautiful.
#nofilter

>>>

Linh and Ling decided to host a WHITE 18th. Which meant I had to find white clothes (which is honestly such a struggle because I always seem to wear depressingly dark colours - aka black). H8 u both. (jk love you pls don't kill me)
ALSO WHY IS EVERYONE HAVING BIRTHDAYS RIGHT NOW? It's depressing watching my bank account grow when I get paid then instantly deflate due to the onrush of birthdays and the requirement of buying birthday presents.
Enough of me complaining.
IT WAS A VERY GREAT NIGHT AND I'M JUST GONNA POST SOME PHOTOS.

mm dat asian decor in the background

Most of us headed to the valley at around 11:30ish and went to FAMILY weoo. This was actually my first time clubbing lel because I've been lazy and anti-social and haven't been since I turned 18 in April #oops. BUT YEAH IT WAS REALLY FUN AND MY FEET WERE VERY SORE AFTER.
I had work the next day which was ugh because I was so dead and in need of a massage. (even though I'm super ticklish and unable to get massaged without giggling uncontrollably). The entire day consisted of me drinking coffee and making zero attempt in starting conversations with customers.

>>>

SUNDAY. So I was meant to be completing my tutorial paper plan which is due Monday, but instead I went to brunch at PawPaw Cafe (898 Stanley Street, Woolloongabba).

SO at the cafe there was this door but it WASN'T REALLY A DOOR. When I first 'attempted' entering the cafe I TRIED TO GET THROUGH BUT REALISED AFTERWARDS THAT IT WAS LOCKED AND A WHOLE TABLE OF PEOPLE WERE JUST STARING AT ME.
Anh, Darcy, Seta and I were waiting on Zoe (BECUSE SHE SLEPT IN THX ZOE). When she finally arrived (on her bike hehe)she tried entering through THAT EXACT SAME door. lel thank god I wasn't the only one. I captured some photos hahaha Zoe looks so cute.

trying to open the locked door
realised nOPE

DRINK // Tropic Green Smoothie
MEAL // Bacon Roll + Avocado
The food was REALLY good and I defs would eat there again. Although I'm not sure how I felt about the 'green' smoothie. It had an interesting taste that I eventually got used to, but upon the first few gulps I was like hmmmm lots of different 'flavours'. Maybe I'm just not used to drinking healthy drinks.

selfie // SElfie // SELFIE
HEY YOU

ZOWEE on her bike + yellow socks
Went to QUT (oops being traitors to UQ) after brunch to 'study'. Except I'm not sure if that really happened...we did have plenty of interesting discussions though. We also managed to take some nice polaroids with QUT library's vintage tennis racquet decorations in the background.
SQUARE POLAROIDS
'how do I even arrange this'
SO IN CONCLUSION, I did no uni related work the entire weekend and right now I'm slightly starting to regret it... but then again, not really. #NORAGRETS #TBH

// HUMANS //

// https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hg3umXU_qWc //

"When a man gives his opinion, he's a man. When a woman gives her opinion, she's a bitch." - Bette Davis

(I refuse to do my assignments yet I actively decide to write an article???? ok Annie ok)

GO.

One phrase that is often misunderstood is Feminism. Several people often think that it suggests man-hating, marriage opposing, bra burning notions. BUT NO. It simply means EQUAL rights - In which both men and women are treated with the SAME amount of respect and given the SAME amount of privileges.
Being a feminist is NOT the same as being a misandrist. Yes there are feminists who stand for misandry BUT feminism in its purest form is supporting the rights and equality of women.
SO I FIND IT VERY DIFFICULT AS TO WHY ANYBODY WOULD IDENTIFY AS ANTI-FEMINIST BECAUSE WHY WOULD YOU NOT SUPPORT EQUALITY?

I think what's important to understand is that being a feminist doesn't mean you blame the entire male population for hundreds of years of oppressive behaviour. Unfortunately, more than half the population are still left slightly in the dark and don't fully understand the extent of this phrase. This is blatant in which comments along the lines of 'I'm not a feminist because I don't hate men' constantly make an appearance within society.

EXAMPLE
I'm definitely not hating on Shailene (she's honestly one of my girl crushes #wcw) but I saw an article based on one of her interviews which reinforces the fact that feminism is an often misinterpreted notion.

Upon being asked "Do you consider yourself a feminist?" Woodley replies "No, because I love men, and I think the idea of 'raise women to power, take the men away from power' is never going to work out because you need balance...And also I think that if men went down and women rose to power, that wouldn't work either. We have to have a fine balance. My biggest thing is really sisterhood more than feminism. I don't know how we as women expect men to respect us because we don't seem to respect each other."

Now I understand where she's coming from, I really do. However, I also believe that she hasn't grasped the concept of what it is to be a feminist. WE NEED IT because despite what some people would like to think, the world is not utopia and there is A LOT of sexism, racism and segregation.
Feminism is a movement attempting to fight an uphill battle against traditional ideals in society where men and women are NOT treated equally. It's not about raising one gender to power. It's about EQUALITY. Something that society is most definitely lacking right now.

Why do we need feminism?
because
...a man should not feel emasculated by being a nurse.
because
...people still ask what the victim was wearing..'
because
... worldwide, more girls have been killed in the past 50 years, precisely because they were girls, than men were killed in all the wars of the 20th century.
because
...Over 135 million girls and women have undergone genital mutilation and 2 million more girls are at risk each year.
because
...between 600,000 and 800,000 people are trafficked across the international borders each year. 80% of those trafficked are women and girls, mostly for sexual exploitation.

These are only a few examples that lay within a jungle of endless evidence.

Of course, there are several other areas in which gender inequality is clearly evident. There are a lot of cliche comparisons I could make...but I'm not going to do that because I feel as though everyone SHOULD already know. But I do want to point out something that not as many people may have noticed. THE MUSIC INDUSTRY (??). In many cases, within the music industry, women are most definitely not as recognised or respected as men.

EXAMPLE
I've noticed (!!!) that young groups of average looking teenage boys who are able to hold a note in tune receive A LOT more recognition and attention in comparison to a group of girls with the EXACT same ability. On youtube and almost every other social media platform, there's constant backlash against female artists that dress in slightly more revealing clothing. I've also noticed that male artists can dress in just as revealing outfits and they'll be praised and idolised rather than slut-shamed.

WHICH IS STUPID BECAUSE WE'RE ALL HUMANS AND SHOULD BE TREATED WITH EQUAL AMOUNT OF RESPECT AND BE ABLE TO EXPRESS OURSELVES HOWEVER WE WANT TO. WE CAN WEAR WHATEVER WE WANT. THERE SHOULDN'T BE A TYPE OF 'WAY' A WOMAN CAN OR CANNOT DRESS.
HATERS GON' HATE

As a person of the 21st century (Imagine me speaking in a documentary voice), I read a lot on twitter. One of my favourite twitter accounts is @NoToFeminism, a satirical account that points out the problems within this misogynist society by tweeting the exact opposite.

Here's a few fun examples:

Whilst we're on the twitter subject...
All you twitter-ers (is there even a word for people on twitter?) may have noticed that a while back #feministsareugly was trending worldwide.

AT FIRST I WAS LITERALLY LIKE:

However, after delving a little deeper I came to find that this hashtag was first posted by 2 self-identified feminists (Lily Boulourian and Christine Yang). The hashtag lead to women posting cute selfies all over the internet, trying to fight against the pre-conceived notion of feminists being ugly. The original hashtag was made to counteract those 'absolutely silly and completely unattainable' standards, under which 'every single woman is (considered) ugly, especially if you're a woman of colour'. Lily Boulourian stated "I wanted to find a way to change the narrative on that and thought I could help inspire others to reclaim that narrative and define for ourselves what 'beautiful' or 'ugly' means."I'm not sure whether or not this trend was successful...the message was misinterpreted by many and created a lot of controversy. At the end of the day I think the most important message is to not let physical appearance dictate aspects of your life and that women do not need to conform to anybody else's idea of being BEAUTIFUL. They are allowed to BE whoever and DRESS however they want to and still feel beautiful.

PS JUST TO CLARIFY: I don't hate men. It's just the double standards associated with women and men that I find to be ridiculous. It honestly NEEDS to stop.
The most difficult thing about this is that we can blame it on society as much as we want but...WE ARE SOCIETY.
I know a blog post will not change the world. But hopefully with the feminist movement we can plant more powerful conceptions based on equality within our communities. Who knows? In time, this notion could bud into something bigger and perhaps society will finally become a firm believer in Egalitarianism. (soz I just felt like using a big word)

THAT'S ALL I HAVE TO SAY FOR NOW. IF ANYONE IS HATING ON THIS POST THEN HERE'S TO YOU XOXO
Lana knows best

hello lovelies,

This week is going to be hectic with tech and design. Monday I went back on site to take a bunch of photos of contrasting landscapes.

After mapping out the site and doing a few quick sketches, Roma, Georgina and I went to Kiss the Berry!
We ordered 2 Acai bowls to share.
Watermelon Split (Blend: Acai, Banana, Springwater. Toppings: Banana, Watermelon, Co Yo yoghurt, Chia seeds)
Tropical Bowl (Blend: Acai, Mango, Strawberries, Coconut Water. Toppings: Strawberries, Passionfruit, Coconut)

FUNNY STORY:
That afternoon I went home with my dad after he finished work. For some reason I was craving Ramen so I asked him if we could have Hakataya for dinner. My dad was very persistent in saying no and insisted we had dinner at home because he didn't feel like eating out. NEK MINUT we get in the car and the car doesn't start up so we assumed the battery was dead. Whilst my dad waited for RACQ to come fix the car I ENDED UP HAVING RAMEN FOR DINNER AT HAKATAYA IN MYER CENTRE AHAHAHA.

IT GETS BETTER.

When RACQ arrived we found out nothing was even wrong with the car. Turns out the car just decided to go on strike for an hour so that I could have Ramen. #fate #destiny

this story deserves a photo

// NO BALL //

// https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JwlgC-jSPTk //

You burn through my mind,
again and again, again, again

hi hello wassup,

Update: I just bought tickets to Bombay Bicycle Club #helltotheyeah
Their concert is actually on the same day as the Architecture ball. However, me and Zoe decided to go to their concert instead SORRY NOT SORRY.

(I'm very happy with this decision)
To be honest I'd rather go to a concert and (maybs somewhere after idk) instead of having to worry about getting a formal dress and thinking about hair/makeup as well as paying $85 for ball tickets. Also I can just go next year! Also planning outfits (especially for formal events) stresses me out. Social anxiety/10.
AND ALSO CONCERTS JUST MAKE ME SO HAPPY :')

 >>>

On a more serious note,
I'm so happy all the celebrities have been promoting ALS and spreading awareness. However, I think it's gotten to the point where some people might not actually know what this 'Ice Bucket Challenge' is even sponsoring. My mum actually explained to me what the disease does to the body and it's really overwhelming just thinking about the symptoms that patients must go through.

The disease is called 'Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis' (ALS). The reason for the ice bucket challenge is due to the fact that patients lose feeling and mobility in their bodies inch by inch. Their body literally freezes up and they are unable to move. The horror is actually knowing that within a few years you will be dead. You slowly lose feeling in all your limbs/body parts until eventually you cannot swallow or breathe. There is no cure.

I'm sorry that post got dark really fast but I wanted to just raise awareness about the actual cause.

Anyways I think this is my cue to leave.

// IS THIS HOW YOU FEEL //

// https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BkzGO0-p77k //

With our given time
We must make it right

Heya!
UNI is getting hectic - so much stuff is due I'm hyperventilating whilst furiously procrastinating like there's no tomorrow.

>>>

Thursday I went shopping with Caroline and Zoe at Indro shops ehehe. I ended up buying a dress (no photo because I ceebs taking one now).
Friday was a looooong day: We had some kind of field trip WHICH SUCKED because it was raining and I couldn't actually get any site measurements/ sketches down. Instead I just took a few random photos.
Georgina being a candid model. This is basically the only photo I took lel
After that we had project pin up which always gives me social anxiety attacks because the tutors randomly (yet not so randomly) pick on people to present and talk about their work. LIKE NO THANKS.

After that anxiety inducing hour, I met up with Hue Man and Amihan and went shopping in the city to buy some birthday gifts. WHICH I ACTUALLY WANT TO KEEP FOR MYSELF FUAAAARRRR. lol.

YUMYUMYUM this Green tea Macha from T2 actually tasted like heaven. This and the Apple Crumble tea are definitely my two favs. I wish I could work there I WOULD JUST DRINK TEA ALL DAY. Maybs I'll apply...but then again maybs not.

After a bit of window shopping, we met up with Ling and had dinner at Noritor. mmmm Korean food.

Even though we were full we decided to go get dessert because COME ON WHO WOULDN'T. I tried honey bread for the first time ever(I'm so behind on the times). IT WAS GREAT AND TOTALLY DID NOT DISAPPOINT.

The positioning of this plate is so awkward
>>>

Saturday: Had work from 11:30 - 5:15
It was raining so I'm guessing there's an unspoken agreement where everyone decides to do all of their grocery shopping. UGH. Which meANT OUR SHOP WAS BUSY.
After work I went to Sabrina's Birthday at Meccah Bar. I ordered a Turkish Pizza with Haloumi and egglplant - an amazing meal. Then again that may have been due to the fact that I only ate a pear during my break at work so I was almost beyond the point of starvation (a.k.a death)

It's such a perfect looking plate of food :')
blurry dinner candids
Look into our eyes. We have no soul.

You can't even see Sarah. Why am I even uploading this
Headed over to Valley Fiesta afterwards. Here's a photo that I stole of Laura's Instagram (Thanks Laura) NOW YOU HAVE TO READ MY BLOG BECAUSE YOU FEATURE ON IT.

Also featuring sorry not sorry photo-bombing Mason
After a little while the others left for the city so I met up with Zoe and co. because I wanted to see The Preatures. It was such a struggle THERE WERE SO MANY PEOPLE but in the end we all found each other.

This was a photo taken before I ended up near the front(ish) of the stage
UPDATE: I AM SEEING THE 1975 IN JANUARY YES I DID GET TICKETS(THANKS SARAH) DID I MENTION YES V EXCITED.
